Beginner Mistakes to Avoid in Match Masters

Jumping into Match Masters is easy, but climbing the trophy road requires more than just luck. Many new players lose close matches not because of weak boosters, but because of small strategic errors that give their opponents the upper hand. Here are the most common mistakes to watch out for.

1. Feeding Your Opponent's Booster

Every booster requires a specific tile color to charge. Keep an eye on the meter next to your opponent's avatar. If you match their target color, you actively help them charge their booster faster. Unless a move creates a special tile or denies a massive combo, avoid matching their color and focus on charging your own.

2. Activating Boosters at the Wrong Time

It is tempting to tap your booster the second it becomes available, but timing is everything. Using a board-clearing booster when the board is already cluttered with your own special pieces can waste valuable points. Wait for a moment when the board setup maximizes your booster's specific perk, or use it to clear away obstacles locking down the board.

3. Ignoring Extra Move Potential

Creating four-in-a-row or L-shaped matches grants an extra turn, which is the single best way to outscore your opponent. Before making a standard three-tile match, always scan the board to see if an extra move is possible. Additionally, making matches near the bottom of the board creates more tile movement, increasing the odds of automatic cascades and bonus points.

4. Playing Faster Than You Can Read the Board

New players lose a surprising number of matches simply by moving quickly. The first move you notice is rarely the best one available, and there is almost always enough time to check the board properly before committing. Build the habit of a short scan every turn: look for anything that grants an extra turn, look at your own charge colour, then look at your opponent's. Three seconds of looking wins more matches than any booster upgrade.

5. Spending Coins on the Wrong Things

Coins are the one resource that is genuinely hard to replace, and they disappear fastest on impulse purchases made mid-match, when you are one move short and the game offers a way out. Those moments are exactly when coins are worth the least. Save them instead for booster boxes during discount periods and for event entries where the milestone rewards clearly exceed the cost. Losing a single match costs you very little; emptying your coin balance to avoid losing it costs you a week of progress.

6. Staying in a Team That Has Gone Quiet

A team is the single largest source of free resources in the game, and an inactive one provides almost none of it. If your requests routinely go unfilled and event milestones pass without being met, you are effectively playing solo while believing you are not. Leaving feels disloyal, but moving to an active squad usually produces a bigger improvement in your inventory than any change to how you play.
